Perfume Packaging Design
Package and Bottle

The Rundown:

Project: Perfume Package and Bottle Design

Software: Artios CAD and Adobe Illustrator

Materials: Aluminum Foil, Sculpey Polymer Clay, Acrylic Paint, Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer

Requirements: Color theory, realistic labeling elements, three versions, concept and mood, and target audience

Fall 2021

For our second project my design fundamentals course, we were tasked with creating a perfume package and bottle with the concept of color theory in mind. I decided to follow a somewhat complementary color pallet by using blue, yellow and white. The requirements included the realistic elements of an actual perfume package such as the price, mL or fl oz., warnings, ingredients, QR or UBC code, etc. and consideration of our target audience.

My concept is inspired from this blue woman painting. I wanted to created a luxurious and detailed concept about a goddess figure, the moon, and jasmine flowers that appealed to mature women in their 30s through 50s that provided a sense of being powerful yet beautiful. (Although, I originally set my target audience to be young adult women, but found the finished product quite expensive looking). The scent is light and of floral jasmine with a gentle hint of manoi that can be worn daily if desired.

The structural design was originally meant to be held completely by the lid, where the four sides were only connected by the bottom panel and could fall open dramatically; However, I redesigned it to have foldable connecting edges so that it could still fall open, but be stronger structurally. I also created three different versions of the package where graphics orientation was rearranged to add some variety. Graphics were made with Adobe Illustrator and structural design was made with Artios CAD.

The perfume bottle was the most time-consuming and challenging part of this process. I first came up with three sketches, but I already decided on the most challenging yet creative design. The actual material would be made out of resin or glass where the body of the goddess would be hollow and would hold the perfume. The moon at the top would be removable and have a long rod attached, so the perfume could be dabbed onto the skin. Bottle was made out of aluminum foil for structure, Sculpey Polymer Clay for structure and texture, acrylic paint, and Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer.
